This residential front entry in Central City, Kentucky, had not been updated since the home was built in the 1970s, leaving the sidewalk, entryway, and surrounding landscape feeling dated and uninviting. In six days, the home gained a polished front yard that feels more welcoming, more defined, and much more reflective of the homeowner’s pride in the property.
What Wasn’t Working
The homeowner had been living with the same cracked, dated front entry since the house was built in the 1970s. The existing sidewalk and entryway felt worn, and the front yard did not create the kind of welcome the homeowners wanted for guests.
The landscape also lacked structure and character. With very little planting, no strong focal point, and no defined bed lines, the front of the home blended into the neighborhood instead of standing out. The retired couple wanted a complete refresh that would improve curb appeal, make the entry feel intentional, and create a front yard they could be proud of.
Our Approach
Perfection Lawn & Landscape started with a full 3D landscape design so the homeowner could see the finished concept before construction began. This helped turn a large front yard update into a clear plan with defined materials, elevations, plantings, lighting, and focal points.
The design centered on creating a better arrival experience. Instead of simply replacing the old sidewalk, the plan added flow, height, texture, and nighttime curb appeal. The new entry would include steps leading to the front porch, a raised patio feel, a bubbling boulder water feature, layered plants, stone edging, black mulch, gutter drainage, and lighting to make the space look finished in the evening.

3D Design Prep
Perfection Lawn & Landscape began by working from the approved 3D design and preparing the front entry for construction. The old, dated layout was removed so the new sidewalk, steps, patio area, and landscape beds could be built with a cleaner flow to the front porch.
Hardscape Installation
The team installed the hardscape features, including the raised patio elements, redesigned sidewalk, steps, paver details, and stone edging. Belgard Ashlar Tandem Wall Shelby Blend, Belgard Origins 12 Savannah Paver, and Belgard Brooklyn Midnight Paver were used to create a structured, modern entry with strong visual definition.
Finishing Details
Once the main hardscape and bed layout were in place, the crew installed the water feature, gutter drainage, black mulch, plantings, and AMP lighting. The plant palette included Dee Runk Boxwood, Summer Magic Catmint, Little Missy Boxwood, First Frost Hosta, Uptick Red Coreopsis, Pink Muhly Grass, Gold Mop Cypress, Firelight Hydrangea, and Pee Wee Oakleaf Hydrangea for layered texture and seasonal color.
What Changed
The finished front yard no longer felt like a dated 1970s entry. The new sidewalk, steps, raised patio design, and defined landscape beds created a much stronger first impression from the street and a more natural path to the front porch.Project Outcomes
